Standing Fan Guide

Before you start looking for a standing fan, you need to keep in mind how big your room is, as this will ultimately determine the size of fan and motor power you need. Read this standing fan guide to learn exactly how to choose a fan that’s right for you.

In This Standing Fan Guide:

Fans with high speed settings, such as those with high wattage, will generate a lot of air flow and help you cool the room. The fan spins at different speeds, which are responsible for the cooling it provides. This is measured in RPM or revolutions per minute. Therefore, the faster the fan spins, the faster the cooling rate. There are two types of pedestal fans available: normal and high speed. 1300 RPM for a vertical fan is considered normal, while anything around 2100 RPM is considered high speed. However, a good RPM range for indoor use at home would be between 1300 and 1400.

Stand fans are renowned for their powerful air delivery, measured in CMM or cubic metres per minute. This basically represents the amount of air pushed out per minute. The more air the fan pushes out, the stronger the breeze will be. cmm also depends on the space you choose.

Stand fans are powered by an in-built motor, so buying the right size for your room is critical. If you buy one that’s too small, your fan won’t work effectively, while if you buy one with a motor that’s too big, you’ll be wasting a lot of energy when you don’t need to and you’ll feel it when your energy bill arrives. The bigger the motor, the faster the fan will spin.

There are two different types of motor found in standing fans – DC motor (direct current) and AC motor (alternating current). AC motors are the most powerful, measuring from 35 to 75 watts, while DC motors are more energy efficient by using less power, ranging from 10 to 15 watts.

When choosing a pedestal fan it is very important to keep in mind the amount of space it will take up in your home. To gauge where to place the fan, the blade sweep and height of the fan should match any room you intend to place the fan in and be suitable for comfortable use. Another aspect to look at is the size of the room in which you are placing the pedestal fan. If the room is larger, the fan will need to cover more area and naturally the height will have to be adjusted accordingly.

One of the main factors determining the durability of a pedestal fan is the material it is made of. It may be plastic or metal. Those made of plastic are lighter, which makes it easier to move from one place to another, while metal ones are more robust and durable.

There are many features to consider when looking for the perfect standing fan for you. These include:
• Protective cage/mesh: Safety feature to keep everyone, including pets, safe.
• Oscillating head: This ensures a larger area is cooled.
• Adjustable height: To manoeuvre the fan in different directions.
• Timer: For greater control over operating time. Timers can also include a sleep timer.
• Remote control: To easily turn your fan on and off.
• LED display: To clearly display selected speed/power settings and timer.

Step 1: Setting up the base
The first step in setting up your stand fan is to attach the base to the pedestal. Find the correct screwdriver and secure the base tightly to ensure it is secure and to avoid future accidents.

Step 2: Attaching the motor head to the base
The second step of our guide involves attaching the motor head to the other end of the base. All you have to do is insert the motor head into the top of the base and make sure it fits properly. Tighten the screw knob between these two parts to improve their solidity.

Step 3: Connecting the switch
In the third step of our task you will need to connect the electrical cable from the motor head to the unit. Check that you have a slide on the back of the motor head and connect it to the stand fan unit.

Step 4: Screw on the rear guard
The next step in our course is to fit the rear guard to your unit. Place it correctly on the top of the base and tighten it with the necessary screwdriver. This part needs at least four screws to ensure that it is securely fastened to your stand fan.

Step 5: Screw on the blades
In this step, insert the fan blades into the front of the motor shaft. Make sure the screws are secured ideally, as this part of the unit will experience some movement and may unscrew it if it is not tough enough.

Step 6: Placing the ring lock and front lock
Ring guards and locks are one of the basic components of a stand fan. They prevent objects from disrupting the rotational movement of the fan, which is a great help in improving the security of the fan, and the person using it. Put it on the front guard and make sure it hugs it properly. The next task is to mount the front guard on your unit and tighten the ring lock screws.

Step 7: Plug it in and turn the switch on
The final step in setting up your upright fan is to connect the male plug to the nearest AC wall socket. Turn the fan on via the on/off knob and enjoy the cool breeze it brings.
